Timeline of Rukan

Rukan has had a colorful and chaotic history from its creation, and even before, due to the war fought in the heavens between the old gods. Because of this chaos, most of the current inhabitants of Rukan only have partial knowledge of their own history. This is the complete timeline of the old gods and the history of Rukan to the current time within the world.

First is the era of the old gods, denoted as EA for those lorekeepers that have histories that go that far back. Scholars in the know place the battle for the heavens between 50 EA and 15 EA. During this time, the old gods began to battle one another in an attempt to become the ultimate ruler of the heavens.

This period ended when the twin gods of Jinju and Arex won and proclaimed themselves the rulers. The twins ruled together for eons until they became bored with it and decided to create a different challenge. In 10 EA the world of Rukan was created by Jinju and Arex as a way to relieve that boredom they found within the heavens. With the creation of the world came the first two species placed on Rukan, the jin, created by Jinju, and the rexi, created by Arex.

While the twin gods were distracted by their creations on Rukan, the first child was born in the heavens. Knut, the firstborn and first son of the gods Kurnt and Saol, was born in 5 EA.

Also during this time, the twin rulers allowed their follower, Loli, to create her own race in their precious world as a reward for her service in the war. Loli created the varul, a species of shapeshifters, as her people. Which made sense considering she was the goddess of change.

An eon later, in 4 EA, Saol gave birth to her second son, Nasaro.

When Jinju and Arex took over the heavens, they captured all the gods that stood against them and forced them to compete in gladiatorial games for the twins' amusement. After seeing the new world being created and the jin and rexi fighting each other as they had once done, the punished gods chose to rebel against the rulers by secretly creating their own species to populate Rukan. Elysha created her elves, Orros created his orcs, Morgo the Trickster created the gnomes, and Valdomne created the bloodthirsty Strig.

Also in 3EA, Kurnt and Saol have their third son, Weisyn. Within the next eon, the fourth and final child was born to Kurnt and Saol. Swyle, the only daughter the couple would have was born in 2 EA.

It was when the new gods ascended that the timeline changes from EA to LM and a lot happens in a short time. The species of the jin and the rexi grew tired of the abuse they tolerated and invaded the heavens to overthrew their creators and former masters. In the process of removing the twin rulers from power, the two species also banished all the old gods from the heavens and proclaimed themselves the new rulers.

Many of the old gods did not have a chance to flee the new gods and banishment, but a few managed that task. One was Saol, who hid herself in the center of Rukan shortly before the new gods stormed the heavens. But she soon learned that her hiding place was flawed, and so she created the dwarves and the dryads in a desperate attempt to save herself.

At this time, the rivals of the dragons and the humans were also created, one by the jin and one by the rexi. The jin created the dragons with trickery to protect themselves from the rexi and because of this betrayal, the enraged rexi created the humans in the hopes they would destroy the dragons.

By 5 LM, two new species had cropped up, the trolls and the goblins. These were the results of the orcs wandering the land and impregnating elves and gnomes. This was the beginning of the half breeds.

It was in 205 LM that the dryads finally admitted that they could not find their goddess by themselves. They recruited nature-minded humans to their cause and empowered them with some of their power in order to aid them with the quest.

But by 230 LM the dryads had became corrupted by the magic coursing through the world and most of the dryads began turning against the others on Rukan in their new quest for more power.

Knut and his siblings had escaped the heavens when the new gods ascended and fled to the faces of Rukan. It was during this time of exile that Knut took many lovers. The resulting children finally banded together in 230 LM and became known as the kunst.

By 480 LM, the undead hoard the strig had created and controlled since they were placed on Rukan were finally able to free themselves from the dark magic that had changed them. They united together with the other species throughout Rukan and drove their former masters to extinction. Thereby the former slaves became known as the undead strig.

It was also at this time that the druids and their allies determined to get rid of the corrupted dryads. It was because of this decision that the dryads were hunted to the brink of extinction as well. Only a small pocket of dryads remind uncorrupted, but the druids continue to watch for any signs of them falling into corruption as others had.
